How to get started after a Motor Vehicle Accident.
Visit: http://www.autoinsurance.gov.ab.ca/process.html Under Alberta`s new auto insurance system, if you're injured in a motor vehicle collision, you have greater access to early medical intervention to get you better sooner. Within 10 days of the collision you must:
1) Report your injury to your motor vehicle insurer. File the appropriate forms AB 1 Form with your insurer if you have a minor injury. Download forms at http://www.finance.gov.ab.ca/publications/insurance/forms/ab-1.pdf
2) Meet your family doctor and tell them that your injury is due to a car accident.
3) Make sure you get a doctor's referral for both physiotherapy and massage therapy. But a referral is not required to access physiotherapy.
4) Book an appointment with your physiotherapist for an initial consultation.
If your injury is a sprain, strain or minor whiplash injury, your physiotherapist does not need authorization from your insurer for the first 12 weeks of treatment and the physiotherapy clinic will bill the insurer directly.
For other injuries not covered by Alberta Health Care Insurance, you'll be reimbursed for eligible expenses from your Private Health Care Plan or your Section B benefits from your automobile insurer.
